What is Chinese Drywall?
The term “Chinese drywall” (or tainted drywall, wallboard or sheetrock) refers to drywall imported from China from 2004 to 2007, some of which emits harmful sulfur gases. These gases can create a noxious “rotten eggs” type odor and can corrode copper and other metal surfaces, thereby damaging a home’s air conditioner, electrical wiring, copper plumbing, appliances and other electronics. Additionally, the emitted gases may be harmful to human health. Inhalation of Chinese drywall fumes has been associated with headaches, bloody noses, sinus problems, and coughing.
How Will I Know if I am Affected by Chinese Drywall?
- Do you own a building (home, townhouse, condo, or other building) that was built or repaired between 2004 and 2007?
- Was sheetrock used in the repair or construction?
- Have you noticed a foul odor like “rotten eggs” inside the building?
- Have you had to replace appliances in your home?
- Have you noticed corrosion of copper and other metal surfaces in your home?
If you answer yes to the above, your structure may have defective sheetrock imported from China. If you would like to discuss your possible claim for damages related to Chinese drywall, please call the Lovelace Law Firm.
